/San Fran Time p2
Sitting at the airport before a long flight to NY a day there and then going back home I am reflecting on the trip.
Today was a typical day of a startup in the fintech.
You are in a different time zone,
sleep little,
are tired
are running behind on all things
you try to prep for an important meeting..
And you end up at the end of the day with a person from that meeting in a bar which brings you to talks about life which has nothing to do with work.
The life of a startup founder is not typically relaxing - not really - Long hours are a given and days off are few. Your startup is your baby, and it needs care and feeding 24/7.
So what happens when a things shatter a bit, a pandemic forces shutdowns and a move to a new place alone happens all in a few month ? Great things, as it turns out.
For a year, me and the people I consider significant — normally based in London — discussed living a more nomadic life, spending a few months in one city and then moving on to another. When we started talking about it, we both worked in our own companies that could in theory be done from anywhere. Then I co-founded my company, and that put a stop on things.
Today sitting at the bar with my meeting of the day we started talking about life and goals.
Funny enough I was not the only one that went through these phases and whilst he is spending Christmas in the way he didn’t envisioned also - but in a good way .. We talked a lot about our business and & Maslow.
What does make a person happy ? Whilst we all thrive other things in the hectic of our lives. In the end and beginning of your life it really only does matter with who you spend the valuable moments with, with who do you dare to share your goals, your dreams and with who do you create memories that last a lifetime.
No big client, no money no.. nothing can replace that.
I love running our startup/scale-up because of the people you meet in London, Gibraltar, Spain, NY, DC it doens’t matter.
It just proves that Maslow wasn’t far off at all..
We are just capturing the hierarchy of need into data..
It doesn’t change the outcome..
Moment, connections, love, family do define this Pyramid.. all the rest.. is secondary… I travel with a reminder of that every day - more about Cameron one other day - but this little bit of history defines memories and love in such a enlightening way that it keeps me on my feet on days where its tough.
It's good to get the acknowledgement that what you actually serves a purpose and fills a need in the market also.
Christmas is on the way… and whilst I have no idea on the where what and how. I do know I will be creating memories, with love and thinking that what we do serves a purpose.
I can’t wait for 2023..
Back to NY - London - Spain and .. we will see.
Below a snapshot of what we do..
